Proof of Christianity – (Part 5) – Peace

Text:   Romans 5:1-2

1Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: 2By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

Commentary:

The death of Jesus on the Calvary tree has created an opportunity for those that believe to be justified, not by their works but through the righteousness of our Lord Jesus Christ. Subsequently, the peace of the Lord that passes all understanding is given to us because of His death and sufferings on the cross. The efficacy of the power in His blood that was shed on the cross changed our imperfection to perfection, helping our infirmities and ensuring uncommon successes where ordinarily we would have failed big time. These assurances of life in place of death, success in place of failure, happiness in place of sorrow, divine health in place of sickness, etc is the reason for our peace as children of God.

I remember when I was a child; whenever my father was around, I had no reason to be afraid. I had confidence that whatever the situation, my father will do the best to protect me. So also, a born-again regenerated child of God should be confident in the name of Jesus at all time. The peace and confidence are from the fact that His thought towards us is of good and not evil, to give us expected end. We know that whatever happens in life is for good to them that love God because we read in 1 Corinthians 2:9 that “… Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him”. The key word here is “them that love God”. If we love God, our peace in Him is guaranteed!

Bible says in Ephesians 2:12 -15 (NIV) that “…12 remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. 13 But now in Christ Jesus (as born again) you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ.  14 For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, 15by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new out of the two humanities, thus making peace”.

Having internal peace is one of those things that marks out a genuine Christian. The fact that we are aware that we have God who is in charge of our lives even in the face of challenges. That is why the bible says in Philippians 4:6 that “be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God

Prayer
